DAWN TYLER WATSON

Montreal’s Jazz & Blues diva, Dawn Tyler Watson is a veteran Canadian blues artist who has spent the last several years touring the festival circuits in Canada, Europe and the U.S. with the Dawn Tyler Blues Project. She’s a two-time winner of the Quebec Lys Blues: Best Female Artist (2003 and 2004), the 2004 Trophée France Blues: Best International Artist (France); the 2002 International Screamin' Jay Hawkins Award for live performance (France); and has earned numerous Canadian Maple Blues Awards nominations; two-time Entertainer of the Year and seven-time Female Vocalist of the Year.

 

Dawn's debut original CD, "Ten Dollar Dress," is an eclectic mix of folksy to funky blues and spotlights an exceptional songwriting talent as well. The effort received much praise and also earned her two Maple Blues nominations, for Best Album, and Best Producer (2002) She is also a featured artist on the "Preservation Blues Review" on Sony Music's recent compilation "Red White & Blues" released this year; and guests with Jeff Healey on his live release "Healey's Live".

 

An accomplished performer, she has also become one of the city's finest jazz singers. She was chosen to costar with famed Quebec heartthrob Roy Dupuis in the film Jack Paradise “Les Nuits du Montreal. The film, which is set in the city’s Jazz hay day of 1930 thru to 1970, opened in theatres to much acclaim in February of last year. Dawn is also the featured vocalist appearing on the original soundtrack by pianist/composer James Gelfand, with a stellar array of musicians including Michel Donato. The album was nominated for Best Original Soundtrack at this year’s Jutra Awards.

Dubbed Montreal’s “Queen of the Blues” Dawn has toured extensively across Canada and into Europe and has worked with such great blues artists as Alberta Adams, Matt “Guitar” Murphy (original Blues Brother), Jeff Healey, Susan Tedeschi, Bob Walsh, Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne, Sue Foley, Nanette Workman, Rita Chiarelli, Jack deKeyzer, Harry Manx, Penny Lang, Mel Brown, Ray Bonneville, Corey Harris, and The Downchild Blues Band. For several years, she has been a favorite performer at the Montreal International Jazz Festival, performing to crowds of over 10,000. And notably last year she was official spokesperson for the Tremblant International Blues Festival, sharing the billing with blues legends Jimmy Vaughan and Keb Mo.
